While not feeling well but not able to sleep, I tapped around my Hulu app and came across and really inspirational fun little program called A Day In the Life: Girl Talk.  Girl Talk is the stage name of Gregg Michael Gillis, who at just 29 is rocking out huge venues with his DJing of all sampled music.  He likes to explain how he really is creating his own style/brand of music {his instrument is his laptop} and either way, it's a far cry from his engineering job he had just 5 years ago in engineering.

Here's a video I found on You Tube of one of his shows.  Kind of awesome, I think.

Walkabout

I have finally gotten a chance to jump onto my computer to tell you about an amazing little movie I stumbled upon last night.  Since not having cable, our family has resorted to kids movies on repeat (we have a lot, so it's not too bad) and Netflix or Hulu movies.  I've been trying to sort through the Criterion Collection to find some of the gems that speak to me and I found an Australian movie called Walkabout from 1971.

The images are all spectacular.  Every single one.  The beginning is a bit startling and gruesome but the entire movie is a journey in survival, communication and many symbolic visuals all set within the Australian outback.  A young woman (maybe high school age) and her younger brother (probably about 5 or 6) find themselves abandoned in the outback and are left to fend for themselves and find their way home.

It's an absolutely outstanding movie.  I highly highly recommend it - engaging, thought-provoking and beautiful.  Here are some of the spectacular screen shots you'll see if you seek it out:

Summer Flick {Shag: The Movie}

One of my favorite Summer movies is the movie Shag.  If you haven't seen it, it's the most fun girl movie.  It stars Phoebe Cates, Annabeth Gish, Page Hannah & Bridget Fonda as 4 friends who spend the Summer in Myrtle Beach.  There's T-Birds, Bermuda shorts, bubble-flips and I just love it.

Beach Blanket Bingo also features shag dancing.  I love the swim suits here.

60's style Summer movies just look like so much fun.  I might have to get some girlfriends over to have a movie marathon.

Charade

Here's another fun old flick.  Great fashion - Audrey in fab hats and coats.  Set in France.  Sassy witty banter.  So fun! It's another Hitchcock movie...love him.

Sunday morning

I love Sunday mornings.

I just took this picture above and thought it was very fitting since it incorporates a delicious breakfast and my cooktop looks like a sun.

I love to watch CBS's Sunday Morning on Sunday mornings while reading the paper and drinking coffee with cream.  {My coffee these days is decaf since since my little girl feels the buzz with me when I drink caffeine}.

If you haven't watched Sunday Morning, you really should.  It's great.  It has a great style about the show and you get updated on the news, art, music, movies, great commentary and your moment of zen at the end.  It starts out with a little trumpet ditty and is hosted by Charles Osgood who always wears a cute little bow tie.  Serena Altchul, who we all remember from MTV, is a correspondent for the show too.  Then, after each story, but before the commercials, they show a picture of a sun.  See, that picture is perfect for this post.

Mr. Ripley

Sitting on my rear end a lot lately (nursing) has gotten me into movies again.  I only want to watch movies that help me escape the cave of my house in this hot Arizona heat.  One that I want to rent again is The Talented Mr. Ripley.  I really don't even remember the story so much as the clothes and hair and the lovely setting.  I'll have to go put it in queue right now.
